Inclusive society – how to build it

Yana Kovalenko.

Inclusion is the full engagement of citizens with physical disabilities in society.

The reality in our country proves that very often for people with certain disabilities life becomes difficult from an early age. It is much harder to study at school because of unequal conditions. Being bullying by peers such persons often have a weak psyche and self-hatred. In adulthood they have to face the problem of employment. The choice of professions is significantly narrowed. Not all companies are ready to hire a person with special needs.

To build an inclusive society, it is necessary to analyze all these problems faced by people with disabilities. In today’s world we already see some efforts in solving this problem on the state level. But, for example, in small towns and villages it’s quite rare to find modern equipment for people with disabilities. And special medical equipment is not available to everyone. It is also important to change our attitude and teach our children to treat each type of person with respect.

The project is implemented by Chernihiv Polytechnic National University in cooperation with the Human Rights Foundation and the University of Tartu (Estonia). The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.
