What does Ukraine lack to achieve social justice?

Anastasiya Onopriyenko.

Now in Ukraine, the problem of inequality of the population in many parameters, including social ones, is quite acute, which is associated, first of all, with the unstable situation inside the country. In order to carry out really qualitative changes in society, it is necessary to be guided by the idea of social justice.

Social justice is a socio-psychological perception of the principles and forms of organization of society that meets the interests of people and social groups, that is, a generalized moral assessment of social relations. Since we live in a market economy, it follows that the state and corporate business should encourage development and ensure social justice. This, in turn, must be realized through social responsibility, that is, the willingness to respond to the needs of society, without sacrificing forced short-term income and economic freedom of each member of society.

Taking into account the conditions of a market economy, the most important criteria of modern social justice can be distinguished as: 1) the abolition of benefits and the provision of equal opportunities for all; 2) provision of social protection by the state to all citizens; 3) approval of new principles for the distribution of income and wealth.

Thus, the indicators of social justice could be determined through the characteristics of inequality, the level of trust and freedom of the population, the level of poverty, access to social services, social security, corruption in society, etc. Realistically assessing the position of our state at this stage of development, we can say that no significant improvement has been achieved. One of the most acute problems leading to social injustice is income inequality, and it is this that creates restrictions in access to the benefits of different categories of society. The concept of social justice also directly depends on the possibility of the existence of the shadow economy. The tax system is now another manifestation of social injustice, as the main tax burden is directed at the poor. Therefore, when we talk about social justice in Ukraine, it should be noted that the authorities are obliged, first of all, to ensure the equality of the population before the law.

Thus, social justice plays a key role in any society. The existence of social justice depends not only on the type of economy in the country and state policy, but also on the people themselves, their attitude and respect for each other. In my opinion, in order to achieve social justice in a market economy, it is necessary not only to pursue a reasonable economic policy, but also to take care of social protection and the welfare of the population. After all, social justice is the main element in the mechanism of stable development of society.
