«Why do mеn earn more?» or gender inequality at work

Dana Shulga.

Since ancient times, even before our era, men have always been earners, hunting and looking for food for the family. The woman, on the other hand, looked after the comfort in the house, cleanliness and cooked food. Gradually the time changed and little by little women had more opportunities to be independent and to be engaged in men’s work. Now, in the 21st century, there are practically no job distributions for men and women, everyone can work in any industry.

But despite the constant struggle of women for gender equality, preference in more complex and highly paid positions is given to men. No country has yet achieved full equality between men and women. In almost every country in the world, women today face barriers that prevent them from fully participating in the workforce and earning as much as men. According to statistical studies by The Global Gender Gap Report, in 2019, men received 62% of the capital in the same position, and women only 38%.

This statistic is characterized by the fact that mostly men are hired for more important and managerial positions. This is also due to the fact that the female sex pays more attention to comfort, the atmosphere in the team, agreeing to a lower salary, and employers use this.

I believe that most women may not agree to an amazing  and lucrative job, believing the stereotype that a man should earn more in the family, “if a woman earns more than her husband, then it will certainly cause problems.” Due to gender inequality, countries are deprived of a huge untapped workforce. It will take a long time to achieve complete equality between men and women, more than 100 years, so we need to do this now, improving our lives!
